Kayhan Kalhor (Iran) - world music concert

The world renowned Iranian musician Kayan Kalhor, a virtuoso on the Persian bowed string instrument kamancheh, made a name for himself in a variety of different musical environments. He is best known for his film music.

Kalhor has collaborated with many different musicians and ensembles, including, among others, the Iranian Radio and Television Orchestra. He is a co-founder of the ensembles Dazstan and Masters of Persian Music and a member of the renowned Silk Road Ensemble, led by the Korean cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, for his compositions Faryad, Without You, and The Wind.

Kalhor's music has been used in many television and film productions. As a soloist, he has collaborated with Osvaldo Golijov on the music for Francis Ford Coppola's film Youth without Youth.
