Past events

The exhibition Kayart, part of the programme of events accompanying the SLOKA 2010 Kayak and Canoe Slalom World Championship, features imaginatively conceived kayak-themed works of art suspended above the old city centre.

Exhibited artworks include 15 interesting kayaks in the shapes of an eye, a shoe, a racing car, a sandwich, and a drum set, among others. The Spanish artist Armengol Tolsa Badia came upon the idea for his kayak series while being by the river running past his house, from where he often observed kayak training sessions. His works have been referred to by critics as visual poetry playing with shapes.

Over recent years, the Kayart exhibition has been on view in Spain and the Netherlands, in cities associated with kayaking. Next year, it will travel to the kayaking test competition held before the London Olympics.

Tolsa Badia's Ljubljana exhibition has been set up in collaboration with the local painter Zmago Modic, well known for his Christmas decorations suspended above the old city centre.
