    December in Ljubljana 2011

    This year's programme of the open-air festivities traditionally held in Ljubljana in December will begin on 3 December, when festive street lights will be switched on during the first in the series of festive events. The programme of festivities traditionally includes the St. Nicholas Fair, the Festive Fair, the St. Nicholas Procession, the Good Fairy act, five Grandpa Frost Processions, the Christmas Concert, a rich programme of street theatre performances, children's events and music concerts, and extensive outdoor New Year's Eve celebrations culminating in a fireworks display.

    From 10 to 23 June 2011, Ljubljana's centrally located Prešernov trg square will host the third edition of June in Ljubljana, an open-air festival of music, dance and theatre organized by the City of Ljubljana, Ljubljana Tourism, and the Festival Ljubljana event management company. The festival, intended for the broadest audience, will once again offer a wealth of cultural experiences free of charge.

    From 1 January to 30 April 2011, Ljubljana recorded 145,828 overnight stays, a 9.4 percent increase over the same period last year. A total of 8,124 visitors in 301 groups took guided city tours, which is 11.9 percent more than in the first four months of 2010. The number of visits to Ljubljana's Tourist Information Centres increased by 12.7 percent compared to the same period last year; tourist information was sought by 41,952 visitors.

    The December 2010 in Ljubljana series of festive events will begin on 3 December with an event entitled People, Let's Turn on the Light!, which traditionally ends with the official switching on of the city's Christmas lights. During the month-long series of events culminating in outdoor New Year's Eve celebrations and ending on 2 January, the festively decorated old city centre will host countless events intended for people of all ages and tastes.
