Ljubljana now has a free wireless internet network called WiFree Ljubljana

6. 2. 2013

On 4 February 2013, the City Municipality of Ljubljana deployed a public wireless network called WiFree Ljubljana. The network, covering Ljubljana city centre, allows visitors and residents to use free wireless internet for up to 60 minutes a day. Visitors to Ljubljana who hold a Ljubljana Tourist Card have a free 24-hour internet access via the WiFree Ljubljana network.

Wireless access to the websites owned by the City Municipality of Ljubljana, including the Visit Ljubljana tourist website, through the WiFree Ljubljana network is free for everyone for an unlimited period of time so that visitors to the city centre can access tourist information at all times using their mobile devices.

The Visit Ljubljana website, which was upgraded last year using the responsive web design technology, enables automatic adaptation of its layout to various screen sizes. Apart from that, it allows smartphone and tablet computer users to pinpoint their current location and nearby points of interest and use the MyVisit online planning tool.

The WiFree Ljubljana broadband network, set up by the City Municipality of Ljubljana in collaboration with two private sector partners, the companies Telekom Slovenije and NIL, is a huge gain for both visitors to Ljubljana and the local residents.

At the moment, the WiFree Ljubljana network consists of 79 access points. Many more access points are planned to be gradually deployed in the future in order to expand the network to cover the entire Ljubljana area.
