Other means of transport
The centre of Ljubljana is a car-free zone, but there are other transport options to choose from. You can take boat rides along the river Ljubljanica and funicular and tourist road train rides to Ljubljana Castle. Those having trouble walking or simply needing a little break while running errands can take a ride on a small electric vehicle called Kavalir (Gallant Helper).
Boat rides along the river Ljubljanica
There are several tourist boats cruising along the river Ljubljanica. Both scheduled and custom rides are available. The boats can be boarded from a number of river piers including, among others, those below the Butchers' Bridge, the Ribji trg and Dvorni trg squares, and the Breg and Poljanski nasip embankments. Offerings differ from boat to boat. Some boats provide catering services and can be hired for private parties.
Funicular railway to Ljubljana Castle
The funicular to Ljubljana Castle, managed by the Festival Ljubljana company, holds 33 passengers and takes 1 minute to the top of the castle hill. The difference in height between its two platforms is a little less than 70 metres.
Short distances within the car-free city centre area can easily be overcome if you hop on an environment-friendly electric vehicle called Kavalir (Gallant Helper). It goes slowly so while running errands, you can simply hail it and it will stop where it suits you. The vehicle can accommodate up to five people. Rides are free of charge.
Operating hours: 8:00–20:00 daily. The vehicles Kavalir 1 and Kavalir 2 run daily from 1 April to 31 October and the glazed and heated vehicle Kavalir 3 throughout the year.

Tourist train ride to Ljubljana Castle
The tourist train rides between the city centre and Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad). The ride to Ljubljana Castle takes approximately 15 minutes. The ride back to the city centre departs at 20 minutes past the hour. The tour includes an audio guide.
During the cold season, the tourist train rides may be cancelled due to bad weather or low temperatures. The train runs according to schedule on sunny days with temperatures above 8 degrees Celsius in the shade.
