22.11.2012

On 21 November 2012, the Visit Ljubljana website, owned by Ljubljana Tourism and intended for visitors to Ljubljana, received the Netko 2012 award for 'Best Digital Project' in the category Media and Information Portals. One of the many qualities of the website is its mobile-friendliness. Its upgrade to the use of responsive web design, which enables automatic adaptation of the website layout to various screen sizes, was completed earlier this year.

Netko is an award for the best websites, mobile applications and social media projects created in Slovenia. It is handed out annually by the Association of Informatics and Telecommunications at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia.

This year's Netko jury assessed the entries in the category Media and Information Portals against the criteria of media model intertwinement and depth of information. Special attention was also paid to the level of innovativeness in encouraging user engagement.

The Visit Ljubljana website, founded by Ljubljana Tourism in 2008, is conceived as the central online information point for visitors to Ljubljana and its surrounding region, Central Slovenia.

The Visit Ljubljana website is one of Europe's first tourist information websites of its kind to have upgraded to the use of responsive web design. Apart from providing an optimal viewing experience across mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, it also enables mobile device users to pinpoint their current location and nearby points of interest, and use the MyVisit online planning tool to easily put together a schedule for their trip to Ljubljana.
