Ljubljana Tourism received many accolades throughout its 15 years of existence. Ljubljana's popularity as a tourist destination has also been on a steady rise. Here's a short list of the most notable awards received by Ljubljana Tourism in the past few years.
Ljubljana was declared the winner of the sustainable tourism award within the first European Capital of Smart Tourism competition. A panel of independent experts and representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament decided so on the basis of Ljubljana's candidature, presenting our capital city's most important measures and plans in the fields of sustainable development, accessibility, digitalization, cultural heritage and creativity.
The promotional campaign celebrating the Jože Plečnik's year in 2017 won the Emerging Europe Tourism Campaign of the Year 2018 award. With this campaign, Ljubljana Tourism paid hommage to the great architect who shaped Ljubljana as a city built on a human scale.
At the Dragon's Ball, concluding the Pink Week 2018, an innovative project for the promotion of unique experiences in Ljubljana and Slovenia at the highest level for LGBT guests, Ljubljana Tourism received the Pink Dragon Award, a recognition that contributes to the development of niche tourism and the introduction of excellent practices in respecting diversity.
The opening day of ITB Berlin, the World's Leading Travel Trade Show, has concluded with ceremony where World’s Best Sustainable Destinations have been unveiled. Slovenia Green Destinations, led by holders of Slovenia Green Destination label, Ljubljana and Podčetrtek, have won the title in the category "Best Destination of Europe."
At the 10th Conventa, the New Europe exhibition for meetings, events, and incentives, taking place in Ljubljana, our city won the Best Congress Destination Award in the category of destinations that can host up to 2000 delegates as well as the Best Event Award for the event Eurocities 2017.
Ljubljana won the WTM Responsible Tourism Award in the category of Best for Communications at WTM London 2017. The Responsible Tourism Awards focus on the contributions made by tourism businesses and organisations and by destinations – in order to recognise those who are making a difference. The change makers, those leading the way to make tourism more sustainable by taking responsibility for driving down the negative impacts of tourism and increasing the positive impacts.
Ljubljana has been ranked by Global Green Destinations as one of the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations 2017. It was ranked on this list for the third time already.
Global Green Destinations ranked Ljubljana among the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations for the second time. The Taste Ljubljana project by Ljubljana Tourism, as well as Terme Snovik Spa and Trnulja Country Estate were ranked among the Top 10 Green Solutions.
Ljubljana won the so-called tourist Oscar for its excellent achievements in tourism development. The Golden Apple Award (La Pomme d'Or) by FIJET (World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers) is presented each year to an organization, country, city or person in recognition of superior efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism.
Sacen International has awarded Ljubljana Tourism with the second Golden Tourist Heart of the Mediterranean and South-East Europe.
Ljubljana won the ETIS and Accessible Tourism Joint Award 2016 in category "Environment and accessibility as a catalyst for sustainable and responsible growth". By winning this award Ljubljana received a honorary mention as ETIS Social and Cultural impact achiever, with special mention for accessibility.
Ljubljana was the first destination in Slovenia to be awarded the title Slovenia Green Destination. The certificate of the highest, golden category was awarded by the Slovenian Tourist Board within the framework of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism.
At the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) global summit Ljubljana won the Tourism for Tomorrow Destination Award for 2015. The jury pointed out that in recent years Ljubljana "has been completely redesigned with sustainability in mind."
GreenDestinations.info included Ljubljana, which is also the European Green Capital 2016, on its first Sustainable Destinations Global Top 100 list. The list was launched to celebrate the management efforts of the most sustainable destinations on Earth.
Lonely Planet, the world's leading travel guide book publisher, has listed Ljubljana at No. 2 on its Best in Europe 2014 list, which includes ten European destinations considered by Lonely Planet editors as the most worth visiting this year.
Ljubljana's promotional movie Ljubljana - The Beloved received the 3rd prize in the category of promotional films in the main competition program of the renowned Portuguese Finisterra Arrábida Film Art & Tourism Festival. Within the thematic categories it also won 2nd place in the Traveling category and 3rd place in the Destinations category.
The project Visit Ljubljana: Tours and trips as experiences won the Digital Tourism Think Tank Award 2013 for content. Visit Ljubljana shared the first place in the category of Content with the Visit Stockholm Sounds App.
Sacen International has awarded Ljubljana Tourism the Golden Tourist Heart in the category »Golden Cup of Hospitality of South East Europe 2012« for the project connecting tourist services in the Central Slovenia region.
At Conventa trade show Ljubljana received a Meeting Star Award as the best congress destination in southeastern Europe. The international jury ranked Ljubljana first among the 25 convention cities in the region, followed by Graz and Zagreb on the second and third place.
Ljubljana Tourism received the Netko 2012 award for the website www.visitljubljana.com. The jury awarded it as the 'Best Digital Project' in the category Media and Information Portals.
FIJET Slovenija - the Association of Slovenian Travel Journalists awarded Ljubljana Tourism with Crystal Triglav, an award for the highest achievements in Slovenian tourism.
In a comparison test of European city cards conducted by the Euro Test website, carried out by the German Automobile Association (ADAC), Ljubljana Card was rated third-best tourist pass in Europe.
