The Žale Cemetery, whose unusual funeral home complex was designed by the architect Jože Plečnik, is an important cultural heritage monument and one of the best known cemeteries in Europe.

Apart from Plečnik's funeral home complex and the graves of several famous Slovenians, located in the old part of the cemetery, the tour also includes the new part of the cemetery, monumentally designed as 'a city of the dead' by the architect Marko Mušič in 1982.
