Each year in the summer, Ljubljana comes alive with numerous festivals, most of them taking place in the open air. The city centre festival season traditionally starts with the June in Ljubljana festival and ends with Nights in Ljubljana Old Town. A great new addition to this summer's range of festivals is Flow Festival Ljubljana, set to bring a stellar line-up of music artists to the abandoned Tobačna tovarna factory complex from 26 to 28 June.

Ljubljana boasts a new museum dedicated to Slovenia's rich history of puppetry, which goes back over a hundred years. The country's great puppeteers and puppet characters now have a special space at Ljubljana Castle.

In 2015, Ljubljana celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of the architect Maks Fabiani, who created his best works at the turn of the 20th century using the then new artistic style known as Art Nouveau. Thanks to Fabiani and a number of other, mostly Slovenian, architects of the time, Art Nouveau is one of the styles that have a significant impact on the appearance of the Slovenian capital today.

The annual Dragon Carnival gives you an opportunity to get to know the wealth of Slovenia's Shrovetide traditions. Make sure not to miss the carnival parade through the streets of the historical city centre of Ljubljana on Shrove Saturday, which falls on 14 February this year.
