Šmarna Gora from Zavrh (669 m)
From the village of Zavrh, located at the foot of this most popular hiking destination for people from Ljubljana, the path begins right outside the birthplace of Jakob Aljaž, a man closely tied to the Slovenian national symbol, Mount Triglav. In 1895, Aljaž purchased the summit of Triglav to secure it as Slovenian territory. He then erected a metal tower that remains a source of pride for the Slovenian nation and a symbol of Slovenian identity.

He has taught at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Maribor, performed with the orchestra of the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana, and toured with the world-renowned group Cirque du Soleil. Ljubljana wins the sustainable tourism award in the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2019 competition
In regard to the sustainable tourism development of the city, Petra Stušek presented to the jury the projects Green Supply Chains, Taste Ljubljana, a project connecting primary schools to the local food producers, the city's zero waste management measures, the increase of public green spaces, pedestrian zones, cycling trails and public transport networks, the introduction of electric tourist train, measures taken in order to achieve de-seasonalisation and dispersion of tourism flows and the development of cultural districts.
