Violist and versatile musician Bojan Cvetrežnik graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and furthered his studies in Berlin and Klagenfurt. He has taught at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Maribor, performed with the orchestra of the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana, and toured with the world-renowned group Cirque du Soleil. He is also widely known as the founder of the ensemble Terrafolk, which received the prestigious BBC World Music Audience Award in 2003.

British pianist, composer and improviser David Gordon turned to music after studying mathematics in Bristol. He has performed around the world with a variety of ensembles – from the gypsy-tango group Zum, to the baroque orchestra The English Concert, his jazz outfit David Gordon Trio, and the early music ensemble Respectable Groove. He and Cvetrežnik previously collaborated on a classical crossover concert presented in England and Wales in 2021 and 2023.

For this concert, Cvetrežnik has created a programme based on his extensive experience in performing, teaching and musical exploration. The focus is on Balkan musical heritage, including several of his own original compositions. Gordon brings influences of Brazilian music, baroque, and jazz into the mix. Together, they shape a dynamic and colourful musical dialogue that bridges tradition and modern expression. The repertoire will include works by Samuel Dushkin, Slovenian composers, Brazilian rhythms, and traditional folk music from Romania, Bosnia, and Serbia.

The violin soloist will be Barja Drnovšek, who studied in Klagenfurt and Ljubljana. In addition to performing in classical orchestras, she devotes much of her time to folk music ensembles. She is an active member of the music-education platform Godalkanje, founded and led by Cvetrežnik himself.
