Duo Becchio was founded in 2023 by Spanish students from the Salvador Seguí Conservatory of Music in Castellón, Mario Teruel Santapau and Óscar Álvarez Peris. Mario Teruel Santapau studies cello with José Enrique Bouché and piano with Juan Carlos Cornelles. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has won numerous national awards and is a member of several youth orchestras. Óscar Álvarez Peris, who graduated with honors under Xavier Torres, is currently completing his master's degree, teaching, and maintaining an active concert career with regular performances at various regional venues.

At the Church of the Holy Cross, they will perform cello and piano sonatas by three composers from different styles and aesthetics. Claude Debussy wrote his sonata as part of a series of six chamber works, reflecting his late style transitioning toward the clarity and restraint of neoclassicism. In 1949, Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, having impressed Sergei Prokofiev, became the inspiration for Prokofiev’s sonata, which is more conservative compared to his earlier, more diabolical works. Thirteen years later, Dimitri Kabalevsky wrote a sonata for Rostropovich, filled with contrasts and grotesque effects.
