This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Bee Path in Ljubljana.
The Bee Path was originally established as a tourist route, connecting content related to the city’s cultural and natural heritage associated with bees. Today, it has grown into a network of 46 different stakeholders — from beekeepers, businesses, and cultural institutions to engaged individuals. It now serves as an incubator for new development ideas related to beekeeping, biodiversity, and food supply within the area of the City of Ljubljana (MOL).
Alongside this, we have developed an international network of cities with their own Bee Paths — the Bee Path Cities Network. The Bee Path also gave rise to the Bee in the City programme, which brings together a variety of activities such as a swarm shelter, late mowing, wild pollinator monitoring, a bee-themed kindergarten (API vrtec), and more.
Between 2018 and 2022, as part of the URBACT III – Transfer Networks programme, we transferred the Bee Path concept to nine EU cities, which are now developing their own activities and content inspired by our model.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Bee Path, a wide range of events have been organised under the slogan Ljubljana – A Pollinator-Friendly City. Among them is a free guided tour of the Bee Path, taking place every Saturday in May, on World Bee Day (Tuesday, 20 May), and on the first Saturday of each month through to the end of October. The meeting point is in front of the Town Hall at 10:00 AM.
