Female elephant who became an icon of nature conservation in Ljubljana.

You are kindly invited to join them at a photographic and educational exhibition on Gallus Embankment in Ljubljana, dedicated to the Asian elephant Ganga, who has been delighting visitors of the Ljubljana ZOO for nearly half a century.

Along the Ljubljanica River, the exhibition panels present her life story, her role in nature conservation, and tales of human–elephant coexistence.

Through photographs, historical glimpses, and short texts, the exhibition showcases:

  • Ganga’s arrival from India in 1977,
  • her daily training, care, and personality,
  • the importance of elephants in nature and their endangerment,
  • the efforts of Ljubljana Zoo and EAZA to preserve species,
  • the symbolism and cultural significance of elephants throughout history,
  • and the stories of the people who share their everyday life with Ganga.

The exhibition was created as part of the celebratory Year of Ganga and in collaboration with Ljubljana Tourism.
