This summer, young musicians from around the world will gather in Ljubljana for a unique artistic event – the Peace Child Week – organised by the Slovenian Youth Orchestra in collaboration with The Peace Child International foundation. The highlight of the week will be the performance of the musical Peace Child, with music and lyrics by David Gordon and Cat Stevens, and Slovene Youth Orchestra.

Set in a fictional world marked by conflict and division, the musical tells the story of brave children who come together to break the vicious cycle of violence. Through creativity and cooperation, they inspire their communities to strive for reconciliation, compassion, and peace. It is a moving tale of the transformative power of the arts as a tool for social change.

The Slovenian Youth Orchestra has long pursued its mission through projects that connect art with social responsibility – from Music for the Future project, which supported displaced Ukrainian musicians, to performances on major global stages, such as the COP26 climate conference. Their work demonstrates that music can do more than inspire – it can prompt real action.

More than 150 musicians, singers, soloists, and narrators will take the stage in Peace Child, continuing this vital mission. With powerful dialogue and inspiring songs, the event is more than just a musical – it is a celebration of art, a meeting of cultures, and a compelling call for dialogue, empathy, and solidarity.
