The Vienna Philharmonic (Wiener Philharmoniker) has secured its reputation as one of the most renowned orchestras in classical music with the televised broadcast of their New Year’s concert in over ninety countries. Although they are most commonly associated with the waltzes of the Strauss family, the orchestra’s primary mission is the outstanding interpretation of the classical repertoire, a commitment they have followed since 1842.

The members are exclusively selected from the musicians of the Vienna State Opera, ensuring a high level of quality and continuity. Maestro Franz Welser-Möst followed this path as well, moving from opera leadership to becoming one of the orchestra's closest collaborators. He gained international fame as a reformer of the Cleveland Orchestra, where he brought classical music closer to audiences with innovative programming.

The concert programme features two masterpiecesMozart’s optimistic Prague Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s emotionally charged Pathétique. The works of two musical titans, placed in striking contrast between hope and farewell.
