The group meets at TIC on Stritarjeva street, where each participant selects their Nordic walking poles and then we set off towards the Prešeren Square. This is followed by a shortstop while the guide immerses us in the history of Ljubljana, the city on a vibrant crossroads of diverse cultures, regions, and historical events.
A relaxed walk follows on Hribar Quay to the Breg. We continue along the green margins of the Ljubljanica River towards Krakovo Embankment, stopping briefly on Hradecki Bridge, where we learn about Krakovo, Trnovo and Trnovski pristan. We continue on Gruden Embankment towards Špica. Here the guide tells a story about the Ljubljanica, the river with seven names that is such a significant part of Ljubljana and which follows us for a great part of our journey.
Then we continue towards the Botanical Garden, the green heart of Ljubljana and one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. We walk past the Primula tea house towards the exit on Ižanska, and then to Karlovac Bridge. We give our cardiovascular systems a good workout by climbing the Castle hill, where we pass the castle vineyard (and stop to learn about it) and arrive at Plečnik’s Šance. We walk through the avenue and past the peasant uprising monument, around the castle, and stop to enjoy the view over the city, Tivoli and Rožnik, and then we return to the TIC.
