Lovely bars and terraces for sunny days in Ljubljana

by Maša Butara

I love it when I find a terrace with a perfect view of the city or a place where I can sip a cold drink during warmer days. Ljubljana center has plenty of bars and restaurants with lovely terraces or gardens and I’m sure you’ll find and enjoy them. Since the options in the center are so awesome, there are also some places usually missed when searching for a place for drinks and good company. I’ve chosen some of them; make sure you don’t miss them the next time you visit Ljubljana.

Jazz Club Gajo

The hidden garden between Opera house and Museum of Modern Art is one of the prettiest terraces - if only you discover it. Jazz Club Gajo often offers live jazz music and student jam sessions on Mondays, and regular stand up shows on the weekends too. Its garden is also appropriate for evening chilling with a good book in your hand; just make sure that in the summertime you arrive early for the best table.

The Nebotičnik (Skyscraper) Café

Without a doubt, my favorite view over Ljubljana and especially enjoyed on a sunny day. Café terrace offers a variety of refreshing drinks, homemade lemonade, ice teas and bistro dishes to ensure you will enjoy your cityscape views even more. I suggest you take long sleeves with you if you're going up late in the afternoon or the evening because it can get windy on an open terrace.

Moderna café

When Museum of Modern Art has a specialty coffee shop, you should pay them a visit. It’s a must for all the coffee aficionados since they have great coffee options by Escobar roaster: a great house coffee, special coffees, cold brew, lattes and flavored options. Moderna cafe is not only perfectly positioned with a perfect garden where you can enjoy the sun on the warmer days – but it’s gorgeous inside too.

Caffee Bienale

At the center of Ljubljana’s largest and most beautiful park, Tivoli, at the end of the scenic Jakopič Promenade, which often offers free exhibitions, you can enjoy your terrace time in front of the International Centre of Graphic Arts. If you plan on visiting a museum as well, you can combine the coffee and museum visit entrance with Sunday combo offer. Besides the pretty views and lovely terrace, they offer various cakes and crostatas, and if you have a sweet tooth, you should check the best cake options in Ljubljana as well.

People rarely dare to approach skyscrapers, museums or hotel terraces and believe they’re off limits. However, they’re not! So, just discover hidden gems and enjoy them as much as possible. Cheers to beautiful and sunny days! ;)
