The IGCAT jury of experts visited Slovenia between 17 and 20 July 2018 to assess its offer in the field after a successful candidacy was submitted in March. They were enthusiastic by everything they experienced and tasted.

"Slovenia has impressed us with the quality of its gastronomic offerings, its commitment to sustainable development and the implementation of all activities related to it. Food production is on a high quality level, and we were impressed by the extraordinary pride and passion of everyone we met, which is reflected in the respectful treatment of their environment," said the president of IGCAT Diane Dodd.

In Ljubljana, the expert commission visited the Dobrote Dolenjske shop, the Open Kitchen at the Central market and the chef Igor Jagodic at the Strelec Restaurant. In the city's surrounding area of Central Slovenia, they got acquainted with the work of chefs Luka Jezeršek at Dvor Jezeršek 1768  and Luka Košir at Gostišče Grič.

The title of the European gastronomic region 2021 will be officially awarded to Slovenia at a ceremony to be held in Brussels on 8 Oct 2018 within the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities.
