Did you know that the town of Domžale developed around making straw hats? By the late 19th century, it was one of the centres of Slovenian industry where straw hat craftsmanship flourished as the main economic activity.
Today, the Straw Hat Museum showcases an exhibition covering 300 years of this craft in Slovenia, and tells the story of the skill, tradition, and people who shaped Domžale’s straw hat legacy – from local artisans to visionary factory owners.
At the museum you can see a rich collection of straw hats, learn about the production process, and even watch demonstrations of braiding or sewing – if you book in advance. Children’s groups can enjoy creative workshops, while adults can attend the June Straw Hat Fair and take a pleasant walk around the former factories with a printed or online guide.
