Filming in Ljubljana - Ljubljana makes an excellent film set
As early as 1965, when the Italian film based on French material Madamigella di Maupin was filmed in Ljubljana, the 17th century came to life between the façades of Ljubljana's old houses. A few scenes of the Austrian historical drama entitled Wir sind am Leben, which is based on true events and is about saving 150 Jewish children from the concentration camps during World War II, were filmed in Ljubljana instead of Austria.

Ljubljana Festival 2015: the upcoming highlights
An aditional attraction is its main venue, the picturesque Križanke Summer Theatre, a gem of 13th century architecture rebuilt to its present form by the famous architect Jože Plečnik. Festival events are also held at a number of other prestigious venues in Ljubljana and its surrounding areas. The highlights of Ljubljana Festival 2015 yet to come include the renowned pianist Nikolai Lugansky, the Israel Symphony Orchestra with Zubin Mehta as conductor, the National Beijing Opera Company of China, who will perform the opera Turandot, and the Sofia National Opera and Ballet, who will perform the opera Tristan and Iseult.

Makalonca Bar&Burger
Makalonca is a charming place where you can enjoy a refreshing drink closer to the river Ljubljanica than anywhere else in the city centre. Being part of the legacy of Ljubljana's great architect Jože Plečnik, it has been designated a cultural monument of national importance. Originally, it was designed as a wharf, but a little less than 50 years ago it was turned into a place to drink named after the main character of the folk tale about Princess Makalonca.
