The Day May Break is the first chapter of a global photographic series depicting people and animals affected by environmental degradation and collapse. The project was created in countries that contribute the least to global pollution, yet face some of the most severe consequences of climate change.

The first two chapters were photographed in Kenya and Zimbabwe (2020), followed by Bolivia (2022). The third chapter, SINK / RISE, focuses exclusively on people and was photographed underwater in Fiji. The subjects – local residents – represent the many communities around the world whose homes, land, and ways of life are already being threatened, and in many cases will be lost, due to rising sea levels.

Despite these losses, the people and animals portrayed have endured. In this, the series not only bears witness to a rapidly changing world but also offers a quiet, resilient sense of hope – and the possibility of a future.
