Pastoral is a captivating ballet choreographed by Thierry Malandain for Ballet Biarritz, drawing inspiration from the pastoral genre that celebrates the idyllic beauty of rural life and nature. The work blends classical ballet with contemporary dance, exploring timeless themes of love, harmony, and the cycle of life.

A key feature of Pastoral is the seamless integration of music and movement. Malandain collaborates with composers whose scores reflect the natural world, from delicate birdsong melodies to majestic orchestral strings. The music enhances the emotional depth of each scene, immersing the audience in the ballet’s world.

At its core, Pastoral is a celebration of nature’s beauty, inviting audiences to experience the countryside’s sights and sounds. The ballet captures the essence of the pastoral tradition while offering a fresh, contemporary interpretation that resonates with all ages.

Thierry Malandain, with 22 dancers, leads Malandain Ballet Biarritz, a leading French contemporary dance company founded in 1998. Known for over 85 choreographies, Malandain blends modern and classical elements with a focus on the dancing body’s power and sensuality. His works often combine narrative and abstract choreography, influenced by literature, mythology, and art history.

Malandain was appointed to the Académie des beaux-arts in 2019, alongside notable choreographers like Blanca Li and Angelin Preljocaj.
