European Mobility Week is the European Commission’s awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. It mainly promotes walking, cycling, car sharing, companionship, combining different types of mobility on the same trip, and the use of environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The last day of the campaign is established as a car-free day. On this day cities usually close at least one of the main roads to show the option of different use of rads, which are usually reserved for vehicles.
Ljubljana is the only city to receive the European Mobility award twice - in 2003 and 2013 for the progress in the field of sustainable mobility and exceptional organization of events within the campaign.
