The Mariinsky Orchestra is one of the most important Russian orchestras. Under the baton of Valery Gergiev they will perform the works of M.Kozins and H.Berlioz.

The Mariinsky Orchestra has been led by conductor Valery Gergiev since 1988. They have been treating Slovene audiences with unforgettable performances at the Ljubljana Festival for several years.

in 2017 Valery Gergiev received Slovenia's highest decoration in the field of culture (The silver Order of Merit) from the hands of Slovenia's president Borut Pahor. 

For the opening concert of this year’s Ljubljana Festival they will perform the symphonic poem White Carniola by Marjan Kozina, a legend of Slovene classical music, and the tragic Symphonie fantastique by Hector Berlioz, a masterpiece that in many respects anticipates Wagner.
