Ljubljana’s city centre is not only picturesque but it also offers some good shopping possibilities. After an interesting day of shopping, you can relax in one of the numerous coffee shops scattered all around the city centre.

In Ljubljana, you can buy fashion from renowned international brands or interesting Slovenian designer clothing, glass and crystal products, antiques and local arts and crafts products.

International brands and Slovenian designers

Whereas department stores like Galerija Emporuim, Maxi and Nama and stores with the Italian high fashion offer the usual array of goods, surprises await you in some smaller shops or street stalls. Some of these are owned by people known in the Slovenian world of design. The Slovenian design has established itself with a number of talented designers such as Katja and Jure Bricman, Alenka Draž, Almira Sadar, Matjaž Vlah, Barbara K. Germ and many others, who live, work and sell their products in Ljubljana.

ARTish Market and Antique Flea Market

During the warmer months, there is an ARTish art market going on every Saturday at Gallusovo nabrežje (Gallus embankment) where you can buy beautiful and original paintings, jewellery or ceramics. Every Sunday, there is an antique flea market where you can admire interesting objects with historical and collectors value.

Good food in the city

Delicatessens that offer culinary specialties and wine shops are becoming increasingly popular in the city centre. While going for a stroll in the old city centre, you can visit the city’s picturesque Central Market designed by the famous Jože Plečnik. In addition to fruits, vegetables and spices, the market offers almost all kinds of food, including the Slovenian specialties such as potica or pršut.

Shops in Ljubljana are mostly open between 8:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. during the week and from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturdays.
