From kids for kids: the best places to visit in Ljubljana
The one I visited with Dad – the Museum of Illusions. The museum is located on the Kongresni square. As my daughter learned in school and is always eager to explain the square has another name as well – Star square. Why? From the middle of the square there are pathways that resemble the five points of a star.

Peglezen building © MGLC © MGLC © MGLC When in the early 1930s Jože Plečnik was preparing plans for Ljubljana's new town hall to be built in the Vodnikov trg square, his designs for the wider square area included a building to be constructed on a plot of land between the Poljanska ulica and Kapiteljska ulica streets which was, until the earthquake of 1895, occupied by a narrow house referred to as Peglezen (charcoal iron in Slovenian).

The Central Market consists of an open-air market, located in the Vodnikov trg and Pogačarnev trg squares, a covered market situated in between the two squares, and a series of small food shops along the river Ljubljanica, which are referred to as 'Plečnik's Covered Market' as they are located in a colonnade designed by Ljubljana's famous architect Jože Plečnik.

The 200th anniversary of the Congress of Ljubljana
The Congress Square in the 1950s. The memory of the Congress remained long after its conclusion. In Ljubljana, the names Congress Square (Kongresni trg), the Road of Two Emperors, the Bavarian Court and the Inn of the Russian Tsar still remind us of the biggest political event in Ljubljana of the 19th century: the Congress of the Holy Alliance.

Hotel Mrak and its unconventional residents
The inn soon became famous for its excellent Slovenian traditional dishes and became a popular gathering place for various artists, writers, painters, architects, professors, and bohemians. It had two dining rooms named after famous Slovenian poets Prešeren and Aškerc. Dance parties, social gatherings, and various literary meetings were hosted in the room with arches, which led to the beautiful garden and was known as the "salon".
