Jakopič Gallery
The quarter includes a central square symbolizing the open space of the Roman Forum. In Roman times, arcades housing shops, inns and administrative offices were sited around the square. The Jakopičeva galerija gallery houses a display of the remains of Emona's administrative headquarters, which include a part of an administrative building with an apsis, an unfinished copy of the capital of one of the columns from the Forum's inner colonnade, and the east side of a rotunda,, whose cylindrical outer wall makes part of the gallery's façade.

Plečnik's Ljubljana
Plečnik's original designs of the early 1930s were later considerably revised and the Barrier was only built between 1939 and 1944. © Dunja Wedam Roman town walls in Mirje In the 1930s, the town wall complex in Mirje was restored to a design by the architect Jože Plečnik. His additions to the surviving Roman walls include a stone pyramid, upward extensions of the walls, the gates to the wall complex, an arched vault covered in stone remains from nearby Roman buildings, and a park inside the walls.

Emonan House
The hypocaust system worked by heating hollow spaces beneath the floor, allowing warm air to rise through hollow clay bricks behind the plastered walls, thus warming both the floor and the walls. On the other side of the corridor was the summer room, paved with a black-and-white mosaic typical of the 4th and 5th centuries.

Hotel Mrak and its peculiar inhabitants
From a local pub to a bohemian salon It was Ivan's father Valentin Mrak who bought a local pub, and moved it to the present hotel location. As it was close to the archaeological excavations of the Roman wall, he decided to call it the “Old Roman Guesthouse”. Well-known for the excellent Slovenian traditional cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere, it soon became a household name in the local art community, attracting writers, painters, architects, professors, and actors alike.

City Museum of Ljubljana - MGML
The trail includes, among other things, the Emona House and the Early Christian Centre archaeological parks, where visitors can see the most beautifully preserved remains of Roman houses in Ljubljana, and the remains of the Emona city wall, renovated by the famous architect Jože Plečnik. All the monuments along the route are marked with information boards with QR codes, which allow smart phone users to access related audio and visual content on the internet.

Hotel Mrak and its unconventional residents
From a local inn to a bohemian salon Ivan's father, Valentin Mrak, purchased the inn in Ljubljana and relocated his business and family to the current location of the hotel near the archaeological excavations of the Roman wall. Enthralled by them, he decided to name his inn "Pri starem Rimljanu" (At the Old Roman). The inn soon became famous for its excellent Slovenian traditional dishes and became a popular gathering place for various artists, writers, painters, architects, professors, and bohemians.
