Ljubljana event highlights in March 2018

by Tamara Langus

Let’s end the winter right now! We prepared some excellent events that will help you feel the spring in our city. Soon you’ll be able to see the real colour of Ljubljana. Can you guess which colour is that? Check out this month’s selection.

Concerts in Kino Šiška

The programme of the Kino Šiška centre of urban culture regularly features big names in indie rock, hip hop, metal, electronic music, contemporary jazz, and other urban genres. We selected three interesting concerts in March:

  • 1 March: Laurel Halo & Warrego Valles. Laurel Halo from Berlin will present her third album Dust, one of the best electronic music releases of the past year according to Rolling Stone.
  • 4 March: Therion - New Rock Opera. Swedish symphonic metal band Therion is on a tour promoting their latest studio release Beloved Antichrist with a special musical and theatrical performance.
  • 16 March: The Game. The Game’s extensive global tour with a full-fledged live band will mark his first stop in Slovenia ever.

Snowdrops Festival

Every child in Slovenia knows that snowdrops are the first flowers of the spring, bringing its joy to us all. Good news is that our Botanic Garden gets fully covered with these gentle and beautiful flowers. But that’s not all. The University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana is preparing a 3-days Snowdrops Festival. Lectures may be interesting for the professional public but you can still enjoy the exhibitions and blooming nature. If you miss the festival, don’t worry. The Ljubljana Botanic Garden is open every day and usually snowdrops are in bloom for the whole of March.

20th Ljubljana International Documentary film Festival

Are you interested in contemporary documentary film production? The mission of Ljubljana's International Documentary Film Festival is to strive valiantly to reach into the core of the biggest social and political problems. This years’ festival has an unofficial moto: The World Can Be a Beautiful Place. “If we attempt to trace a common thread linking the movies selected this year, then it lies in their larger-than-life characters and their critical or nostalgic/melancholy attitude to the past,” wrote the festival programme director. Let’s go to the cinema!

14 - 21 March, Slovenska kinoteka, Cankarjev dom, Kinodvor
