Ljubljana event highlights in September 2017

by Tamara Langus

It’s so hard to say goodbye to a beautiful summer. Slowly we’ll have to except evening chills but we still have a few days before the real autumn arrives. Let’s see what will be going in Ljubljana and its surroundings this month – we prepared a selection of very diverse events for you!

Concerts at the Kino Šiška - Centre for Urban Culture

In September, the programme of the Kino Šiška centre will feature interesting names but we selected representatives of four different music genres.

  • On 5 September, Benjamin Clementine, a British singer, multi-instrumentalist and poet will give us an exclusive performance.
  • On 6 September, Princess Nokia (USA) and КУКЛА (Slovenia) will give us an impression what women can do with trap and hip hop music.
  • On 14 September, Bad Breeding (GB) and Dope Calypso (Hungary) will show their rage in punk night.
  • On 25 September, Ghostface Killah (USA), one of the greatest MCs of all time, a founding member of the famed Wu-Tang Clan and a living legend is coming to teach us a lesson in unparalleled rap mastery.

Spider Festival

Spider Festival has been connecting various artists and numerous artistic disciplines in six European cities. It’s fresh, sharp and engaging festival. In a week, this contemplation-friendly, party-friendly and guerrilla-friendly international gathering of dance makers will let you see, hear and experience some of the freshest and most radical production. Join in!

6 - 18 September at Ljubljana's Old Power Station

National Costumes and Clothing Heritage Days

Only 25 minutes away from Ljubljana, there is Kamnik, a lively medieval town embraced by the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The National Costumes and Clothing Heritage Days festival will be held in the old town centre of Kamnik and will include costumed processions featuring folk costumes of various regions of Slovenia and other countries. If this does not bring to your attention, we have to mention that due to high quality programme, the festival has been listed among the international festivals under the patronage of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (CIOFF).

7 - 10 September in Kamnik old town centre

24rd Anniversary of the Metelkova mesto alternative culture centre

Metelkova is a special part of Ljubljana. It developed from a squat in a former army barracks and with hard work it has become a maze of alternative galleries, clubs, bars and artistic studios. Now it’s time to throw a great birthday party! In the time of writing this post we could not get the information about the admission fee but usually it’s not very expensive and sometimes it’s even free. The important thing is that will have three days of celebration! See you at the party!

8 - 10 September at Metelkova mesto alternative culture centre

Streetwalker

I love this event! The Streetwalker is "ready-made" open-air gallery that helps you discover the finest artworks hiding behind every street corner of Ljubljana - using only the power of imagination. Join an interactive guided tour, participate in a lively debate on contemporary art and contribute a new work of art into our collection. The entrance is free, smoking in the gallery is allowed and you can even bring your children and pets. Pure fun!

23 September, in front of the City Museum of Ljubljana

If all these are not enough for you, visit the Events section on our website and have a great September in Ljubljana! :)
