Together for a Clean Ljubljanica

This creative workshop, developed by the company Sitar 1920, is designed especially to engage the youngest visitors in exploring their city and paying attention to its details, while also inviting people of all ages - locals, domestic, and international visitors - to take part. Adding to the festive atmosphere will be elegantly dressed performers in tailcoats and bourgeois attire strolling along the riverbanks. The 200th anniversary of the Congress of Ljubljana

Ljubljana in the spotlight The city of Ljubljana left nothing to coincidence before the arrival of the emperors, the housing for the numerous visitors had to be prepared, the old Capuchin monastery was razed and in its place an open space was created, today known as the Congress Square, where the main processions and festivities then took place. To ensure that there would be enough entertainment for the guests throughout the duration of the congress, many social activities were organized, including military parades, the music of the Philharmonic Society, dances, masquerades, fireworks, theatre and opera performances by national and international groups, sailings across the Ljubljanica River and hunting expeditions.

History of the LGBTQI+ movement in Ljubljana and Slovenia

The organised LGBT movement in Slovenia started back in the 1980s, specifically in December 1984, when the first founding meeting of the Magnus section, which operated within the then ŠKUC (Student Cultural Centre) forum and was the first gay organization in the former socialist states, took place. The creation of the section followed the Magnus Festival: "Homosexuality and Culture" in April, during which many LGBT-themed events took place (opening of an exhibition of homosexual printed media, screenings of films...)
