Short but sweet: Stari Grad and its amazing views of the Alps
I’d driven past it many times, always towards jagged mountain peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and so it wasn’t until two years ago when I finally decided to visit Stari Grad with my family. As it turned out, it’s one of the coolest and most scenic short hikes in Slovenia. It’s a family-friendly 35-minute trail that teaches about wildlife and nature, and ends with amazing views over the Alps and Kamnik.

A winter fairy tale and stunning scenery above Vrhnika
As fog lingers among the busy streets of Ljubljana, a small town on the south-western edge of the Ljubljana Moors and its embracing rolling hills lure young families, trail runners and other adventurers for a nice day in the sun. One of the most visited hills above Vrhnika might be small in size but totally and utterly captivating. The thing about Slovenia is that every settlement, no matter how small, has its own favoured hill where everyone goes to get their weekly (daily?)

Discover Ljubljana's socialist past
Drago Tršar’s Monument to the Revolution in the western corner of Trg republike is the most visually arresting of the lot. First unveiled in 1975, its kinetic energy symbolises the movement of revolutionary masses. A smaller statue of Edvard Kardelj is located near the monument.

The Tourism Makes Ljubljana campaign entered in the first category of the competition, which evaluates the most successful involvement of citizens, and is competing for the award together with Eidenhoven, Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo in Alberta, Tasmania and the Nordic Region.

Easter in Ljubljana
Dried turnip peelings are rarely seen at the market, although they are used to prepare one of the most unique, traditional, pre-Easter Lenten dishes, known as alleluia. This humble soup is said to have its origin centuries ago as a memory of one of the great famines of the late Middle Ages, in the days when Ljubljana was besieged by the Ottoman Turks.

Cultural heritage The Ljubljana Marshes are also an archaeologically important area. One of the most significant finds is the oldest preserved wheel with an axle in the world, which dates back to the time when the area was inhabited by pile dwellers, around 5200 BC.
