Exploring Ljubljana by Bicycle
© Nea Culpa
Discover the most important sights of Ljubljana outside the city centre in an environmentally friendly and active way.
Ljubljana proudly holds the title of one of the greenest capitals in the world, and its true pulse is hidden just where the hustle and bustle of the strict center ends. This dynamic cycling tour is designed for everyone who wants to step off the beaten tourist paths and feel the relaxed energy of Ljubljana's embankments, parks, and historic suburbs that breathe with nature.
What will you experience?
Our journey begins with a ride towards Old Ljubljana, where a gentle pedal stroke will reward us with beautiful views of the city's architecture. Soon, we will turn onto the well-kept cycling paths along the banks of the Ljubljanica River, leading us to Špica. This former city beach has been transformed into a beautiful park embankment, where locals love to hang out on sunny days, catch some sunbeams, and watch the river flow.
The path will then lead us across the bridge over the Gruber Canal straight into an oasis of peace – the University of Ljubljana Botanical Garden. As one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe (operating since 1810), it provides shelter to thousands of plant species and is a true green treasure in the middle of the city.
From this botanical serenity, we will cycle towards Krakovo. This charming old suburb, also known as "Ljubljana's vegetable basket," will enchant you with its traditional village houses and carefully cultivated gardens that exist untouched just a stone's throw away from the city center.
To top it all off, we will cycle towards the lungs of the city – the magnificent Tivoli Park. Here, the cycling paths blend with mighty tree avenues, green lawns, and art, rounding off our active adventure into a perfect whole.
