In Zvezda Park, Grandpa Frost’s cosy cottage will open on Saturday, 20 December, inviting children into a world of winter magic. In the first days, his cheerful granddaughters will take centre stage, entertaining young visitors and hosting hands-on creative workshops from 25 to 30 December. Children will be able to make greeting cards, decorations and badges, decorate Grandpa Frost’s mailbox and even watch “snow” being cooked, gently falling to create a truly festive winter atmosphere. From 26 December onwards, Grandpa Frost himself will be there to welcome children, listen to their New Year wishes and share a few magical moments. On five afternoons, he will also travel through the city in a horse-drawn carriage pulled by Lipizzaner horses, accompanied by the Ice Queen and beloved fairy-tale characters. For even more wintery and fairy-tale fun, on 27 December the car park at Krekov trg will be transformed into the setting of two magical worlds: the Ana Mraz with Friends festival stage will host daily festive street performances until 29 December, while a snow playground made of real snow will offer children space for play, exploration and small winter adventures.

Grandpa Frost's cottage

The festively decorated Grandpa Frost's cottage will be open in Zvezda Park from 20 to 30 December. Children can visit it every day between 10:00 and 18:00 (except 24 December), when Grandpa Frost’s granddaughters will provide entertainment. Between 25 and 30 December, numerous creative workshops will take place in front of the cottage, and, at the children’s request, snow will be “cooked” and gently fall from the roof of the little house. Ljubljana will thus become a city where s now falls whenever children wish. Children will be able to share their New Year wishes with Dedek Mraz on 26, 29 and 30 December from 14:00 to 16:30, and on 27 and 28 December from 10:30 to 13:00.

Grandpa Frost's Precessions and New Year’s Eve for Children

Between 26 and 30 December, Grandpa Frost will also embark on a daily procession at 17:00, travelling by carriage with Lipizzaner horses, accompanied by the Ice Queen, snowmen, bears, hares and other characters from folk tales and fairy stories. He will greet children along the route from Breg, across Čevljarski Most Bridge, Mestni Trg Square, Stritarjeva ulica Street, Prešernov Trg Square, Wolfova Ulica Street, Kongresni Trg Square and Novi Trg Square, with stops in front of City Hall, Prešernov Trg Square and Novi Trg Square.

He will also visit children on 31 December at the children’s New Year’s Eve celebration on Congress Square, where from 16:00 onwards they will enjoy fun activities with fairy-tale characters and children’s musical performances, symbolically welcoming 2026 at 17:00.

Ana Mraz with Friends Festival and Snow Playground at Krekov trg

From 27 to 29 December, the car park in front of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre will be transformed into a fairy-tale winter venue. The international winter street theatre and circus festival Ana Mraz with friends will bring its recognisable urban scenography, wooden stands and colourful lighting, turning the area into a festive event space. Every day at 13:00, interactive street performances will take place, while from 18:00 onwards there will be dance and music animations, circus and juggling acts, and aerial acrobatics for all generations.

Throughout the day, from 10:00 to 18:00, a snow playground with real snow will enrich the experience at Krekov trg, allowing children to enjoy fun winter adventures.

Music Programme

As part of December in Ljubljana, a rich music programme is already taking place at Pogačarjev trg Square and Novi Trg Square. At Mestni Trg Square, a traditional Christmas concert with Uroš Perić will be held on 24 December, while on 26 December the programme at the largest venue, Kongresni Trg Square, will begin with a concert by Žan Serčič and Jelena Rozga. Open-air New Year’s Eve celebrations will also take place at Kongresni Trg Square and three other locations, and at midnight the sky above the city will be illuminated by a five-minute fireworks display from Castle Hill.
