Krater Collective is a group of transdisciplinary creators who have chosen to reshape their professions, studios, and working conditions in order to act as advocates for a self-sustaining ecosystem within an abandoned construction pit in Ljubljana. As this fragile environment is constantly on the brink of extinction, the collective cultivates creative resilience by addressing urgency through inventive tactics, events, and formats, while also treating administrative and other constraints as material for artistic interventions.
These actions call for alliances and community-driven economies, opening up new fields of regenerative, relational, and critical creative practices. In addition to their core focus on biodiversity preservation, Krater also hosts internationally recognized educational programs that introduce new typologies of cultural work, laboratories for biomaterial experimentation, exhibitions, conferences, and other public programs.
Krater was a finalist for the NEB Prize, received a special mention at the 35th Graphic Biennial in 2023, and was awarded the Plečnik Medal for Public Space.
