During the years when Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia, all children were inducted into the Union of Pioneers of Yugoslavia. The aim of the organisation was to raise young people into nationally conscious citizens. At the induction ceremony, children were presented with a red scarf and a navy blue hat called a titovka, named after President Tito. The bronze sculpture depicting a boy and a girl, with a dove in the latter’s hand, was erected to honour pioneers.
Notes
Where: The sculpture stands in the Stanko Bloudek Sports Park, on a slope in front of the Cekin Mansion.
