Slovenian School Museum

The Slovenian School Museum is the oldest specialist museum in Slovenia. Its role is to preserve the school heritage and conduct research into the history of education. It is located in the former Ursuline schools at Plečnikov trg 1 in Ljubljana.

Permanent exhibition School Rules!

The interactive permanent exhibition School Rules! uses museum objects, documents, models and ambient installations to take visitors on a journey through interesting facts from the history of education, from prehistory to the present day.

The exhibition's central feature is a long school blackboard, with a long school bench opposite. However, this is no ordinary blackboard; like a magic cabinet, it opens to reveal flaps and drawers leading to numerous enticing stories from the history of education in Slovenia.

A visit to the Slovenian School Museum is also a journey back to your youth and your memories of school, which are unique and unrepeatable for everyone.

Lessons from the old days

There's nothing quite like sitting behind an old school desk in front of a stern-voiced Miss Teacher or Mister Teacher. Dressed in the fashion of the past and with the obligatory cane in hand, teachers conjure up the atmosphere of schools from years gone by. Visitors can relive old teaching methods and gain learning content from a bygone era.
