Trubar’s Homestead

For over thirty years, Trubar’s Homestead has been a central site dedicated to preserving the memory of Primož Trubar, the father of the Slovenian language and author of the first book written in Slovenian. The homestead includes a memorial house with a mill, a Venetian sawmill, an outbuilding, and a traditional hayrack (kozolec). We recommend exploring the Trubar Homestead with a guide to fully immerse yourself in a journey back in time.

Situated right beside the Rašica stream, it’s an ideal spot to relax by the water under the shade of alder trees. The homestead hosts numerous events and intimate boutique concerts throughout the year. On-site, you’ll also find the Skedenj Gallery, which features an ever-changing variety of exhibitions.

The homestead serves as a starting point for discovering the Velike Lašče region, as it is home to the Kozolec Tourist Information Centre (TIC). Within the hayrack, there is an interpretive centre dedicated to the Mišja Valley (Mišja dolina), a unique area preserving natural and cultural heritage. It mainly consists of wet meadows and low-lying marshes along the Rašica stream and its tributaries. The best way to explore it is by following the Beautiful Demoiselle thematic trail (Pot modrega bleščavca).
