During the daytime, it’s an excellent café which also offers an interesting programme of social events, lectures, and panel and public discussions. Also, it’s the only comic shop in the city centre – and (of particular interest to me), a rich source of Slovenian craft beer. Right! We’re heading towards the famous and always surprising Metelkova quarter, but there’s another stop on the way… The Old Power Station Ljubljana went electric in 1898, and for that, Ljubljana City Power Station was constructed.

Flower baskets in Ljubljana’s Old Town

Flower baskets in Ljubljana’s Old Town Ljubljana’s Old Town boasts a special kind of floral decoration. Specially made metal baskets have been installed on the city’s decorative public lighting fixtures. Since 2015, Ljubljana Tourism has installed 221 flower baskets in the attractive architectural settings of Ljubljana’s streets and squares, where they brighten up the city all year round.

Art Nouveau Ljubljana

Ljubljana makes the list of the world’s most sustainable destinations for the sixth year in a row

As the project proved very successful and popular, Ljubljana Tourism decided to upgrade it in the post-corona period and together with cultural institutions prepared a virtual exhibition CoronaCulture, which shows how the city remained culturally vibrant during the lockdown. Ljubljana first made the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in 2014 and has retained its place on the list this year, making it the most decorated city for sustainable tourism achievements and the only city in the world to make the list six times.
