Prešeren Day, Slovenian Cultural Holiday
The Slovenian Cultural Holiday will be marked by an official state ceremony including the presentation of Prešeren Prizes, the country's most prestigious cultural awards, and many other cultural events held over a period of a few days before 8 February. On Prešeren Day, there will be free admission to Ljubljana's museums and galleries, several concerts, theatre performances and film screenings and a number of other events. The Slovenian Cultural Holiday is dedicated to honouring France Prešeren (1800-1849), the most important Slovenian poet, who is remembered not only for his Romantic poetry but also for his efforts to modernize the Slovenian language.
