Ljubljana has been ranked as one of the Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations 2017 – again for the third time!
Ljubljana and Slovenia are both in the company of recognized countries with the most sustainable destinations, like the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Spain and Canada. The evaluation of the most sustainable destinations is a joint initiative of Green Destinations International, Travelmole's VISION on Sustainable Tourism, the Destination Stewardship Center, the Asian Ecotourism Network, Sustainable Travel International, QualityCoast and Linking Tourism & Conservation (LT & C).

Research Among Foreign Visitors
Every two years, we conduct a survey among international visitors to monitor their characteristics, travel motives, spending habits, and level of satisfaction. The 2024 survey revealed that visitors most often travel to Ljubljana as couples or with friends. The main reason for coming to the Ljubljana remains a city break, during which visitors most enjoy exploring the local culinary and cultural offerings.

Church of St. Michael
Michael, built between 1937 and 1940 at Ljubljana Marshes, belongs among the architect Jože Plečnik's most original creations. It combines the features of Greek temples with those of the churches of the Slovenian Kras region, which are characterised by open belfries as part of their front façades.

An acrobat cycled atop the tower of Ljubljana Castle, overlooking the city’s panorama, while the most spectacular act featured three bike acrobats who descended vertically down the 70-metre façade of the iconic Nebotičnik on legendary Rog bicycles.

Ljubljana among the Covid-19 Safest Christmas Destinations
EBD points out that with 12 times fewer severe cases of Covid-19 per million inhabitants than the most affected countries in Europe, Slovenia is positioned as one of the safest destinations this winter. They describe Slovenia as a »destination which is perfect for a break far from stress in the middle of nature and enjoying timeless moments on fresh air.« They further highlight the fact that it is the most awarded European destination by the European Commission for its commitment to sustainable tourism.

Route details The route up Krim from the village of Jezero alternates gently rising sections with slightly steeper slopes, for the most part passing along rocky and stony cart tracks and, in places, forest tracks. At the first fork (signposted), we recommend following the sign for Planinca, where the two paths meet again by the little church dedicated to St Thomas.

Exploring Ljubljana by Bicycle
