  • 21 Dec 2025 - 4 Jan 2026

    Gradež, 1311 Turjak

Traditional exhibition of nativity scenes in an idyllic, festively lit village.

Stroll through the magical village by torchlight and discover nativity scenes tucked away in Gradež’s most charming hidden corners – in chapels, on window sills, under haystacks, in cellars, granaries, houses and out in the open air.

The nativity scenes are created by local residents as well as artists from other parts of Slovenia, with many pieces also brought back from abroad. We can hardly imagine a material that has not yet been used, nor a size we have not seen – some exhibits are more than 150 years old. Last year, the Austrian broadcaster ORF even produced a feature on the exhibition.

Opening – 21 December at 5.30 pm

The festive season will begin with a Christmas concert, a guided tour and a local market. Warm drinks and snacks will be available, and you may even be able to watch some of the makers at work.

Closing – 4 January at 5.30 pm

The exhibition will conclude with a traditional presentation and tasting of poprtnik (festive Christmas bread). Hot drinks and treats will once again be waiting for you.
