St. Nicholas Procession

Every year at the beginning of December, Ljubljana lights up with festive energy as St. Nicholas descends to Krekov trg Square by funicular, where he is warmly welcomed by his lively entourage.

In keeping with tradition, angels reward the good children with cookies, fruit, and sweets, while devils and Krampuses playfully scare the naughty ones – but don’t worry, they’ve promised to behave this year!

Accompanied by a magical procession of angels, devils, and Krampuses, St. Nicholas makes his way to Prešeren Square, where he greets the gathered visitors and officially opens Ljubljana’s festive season.

This joyful event, filled with children’s laughter, sparkling lights, and holiday cheer, is one of the most beloved moments of the season – a truly enchanting introduction to December in Ljubljana!
