One of the most influential jazz singers and musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries presents a programme that brings together musical excellence, social engagement, and a tribute to the jazz tradition.
From an early age, she has felt a strong urge to express her inner voice through performance. Since first stepping onto the stage, she has done so with confidence and individuality, developing an uncompromising and free artistic expression. Over six decades, she has moved across genres, performed at the Sanremo Festival, recorded more than 20 albums, and appeared in theatre and film.
Her career includes three Grammy Awards and a Tony Award for her role as the Good Witch in the Broadway musical The Wiz. She has collaborated with jazz and soul legends such as Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, and Nina Simone.
As a UN Goodwill Ambassador and mentor to young musicians, she continues to support new generations and address social issues. Through her We Exist! project, she brings together young female musicians in a programme that responds to social injustice and contemporary conflicts through jazz and songs of protest, continuing the tradition of powerful voices in music history.
