A Summer Discovery of New Ljubljana Flavours
23 Jun 2026
Summer is in full swing and Ljubljana’s streets, squares and riverbanks are becoming ever sunnier and livelier. Before the people of Ljubljana scatter off on their summer holidays, it only seems right to visit some of the capital’s newly opened venues, raise a glass to summer, welcome them to the city’s culinary scene and wish them smooth sailing through the season ahead.

Gallusovo nabrežje 27
A new venue came to life on Gallusovo nabrežje this spring, focusing on specialty coffee in the morning, cocktails in the afternoon and evening, and small bites throughout the day that pair beautifully with both. We are already looking forward to the warm days ahead, when we will be able to enjoy those little things that bring great happiness on their charming terrace by the Ljubljanica.
Cesta 27. aprila 2a (Park Tivoli)
After many years of standing empty, the thoroughly renovated Čolnarna by the pond in Tivoli has reopened its doors. Walks through the city’s largest park can finally once again be rounded off with a coffee or an ice cream while watching water birds and water lilies, or with a sunset aperitif and shared bistro-style bites from their menu.
Cigaletova 3
A new bar has found its home on Cigaletova Street, inviting guests every weekday into its cosy yet contemporary interior and onto its charming garden by Miklošič Park. Stop by for cinnamon rolls with your morning coffee or for a relaxed afternoon chat that, over a glass of wine, a cocktail or a beer, may easily stretch long into the evening.
Židovska 1
The popular Ljubljana steakhouse has recently expanded its family with a new restaurant in the city centre. On a charming little street in the heart of town, guests are now welcomed into a colourful, imaginatively painted setting with a menu of burgers and Argentinian beef that instantly transports you all the way to Buenos Aires.
Volčji Potok 43g (Golf Resort Arboretum)
The restaurant regarded as one of the pioneers of fine dining in Slovenia began writing a new chapter of its story in May. Nina and Tomaž Bratovž, who have taken over the running of the restaurant from their father, chef Janez Bratovž, will now be creating with their own distinctive signature in the green surroundings of Golf Resort Arboretum. Their already established à la carte offer will soon be joined by a fine dining menu which, while respecting the core values of the Bratovž family, further strengthens with a fresh concept the unique story the young Bratovž duo are writing at their new location.
Celovška 22
Alongside the Union Brewery Museum and pub, Ljubljana is now also home to a true urban brewery. This is a small-batch urban beer production site which, in addition to well-known styles, will often explore more ambitious contemporary brewing recipes. With its focus on authenticity, diversity and direct contact with the producer, it aims to become a place for socialising, meeting and experiencing brewing culture.
Vodnikova 65
A new bar has opened in the bookshop of Vodnikova domačija in Šiška, inviting visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee beneath an old chestnut tree in its pleasantly bright courtyard after browsing the bookshelves. From now on, refreshing drinks will complement the cultural offer during the bookshop’s opening hours and at the many events held at the homestead.
Miklošičeva 19
Since this spring, a new young team has been creating in the space that for many years was home to the Slovenian culinary institution JB Restaurant. In Plečnik’s listed building, they will serve lunches during the day, while evenings will be dedicated to more elegant and ambitious fine dining-style menus. Their inspiration will come primarily from Mediterranean cuisine, but given that three members of the kitchen team trained under chef Janez Bratovž, their plates are sure to pay tribute to the culinary legacy they are inheriting with the space.
Rakuševa 1 (Aleja)
Luka Košir, chef of the Michelin-starred restaurant Grič from Šentjošt nad Horjulom, has opened a new venue with his team at the Aleja shopping centre, dedicated to high-quality traditional Slovenian cooking. Mica, named after Luka’s mother, serves a menu full of Slovenian culinary classics, from fried chicken and Wiener schnitzels, also available in sandwich form, to essential stews and soups, legendary side dishes such as sautéed potatoes, mashed potatoes and chips, radicchio and cucumber salads, and the one and only homemade strudel. Like Sunday lunch but every day.

Mestni trg 6
On Mestni trg, next to the new outpost of Munchies, a café specialising in matcha, a sister shop has opened, filling its shelves exclusively with carefully selected Slovenian products. This is no ordinary souvenir shop; it is also a place to find gifts for gourmets who appreciate Slovenian products such as honey, hot sauces, oils, jams and wooden kitchen utensils.
