An Eventful Autumn in Ljubljana
9 Sep 2025
September in Ljubljana is something truly special: the days are just the right length, pleasantly warm, and the city’s streets and squares, a little quieter after the peak tourist season, become even more inviting for strolling. After two months of summer holidays, the people of Ljubljana return full of energy and new experiences, eager to reconnect with loved ones we may not have seen all summer. Luckily, September is bursting with delicious events – the perfect excuse to gather with fellow lovers of food, drink and good company.

Fridays, as long as the weather holds, are of course reserved for our favorite open-air food market, Open Kitchen. Until the end of October, Pogačarjev trg will once again be filled with a handpicked selection of restaurants, inns, and eateries from all over Slovenia. And September brings something extra: after its successful spring premiere, the Asian food festival Festivasia returns to Pogačarjev trg on Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 September.
NEU Bar & Bistro is also rolling up its sleeves this September, and it’s wonderful to see them collaborating with nearby restaurants to co-create a new gourmet quarter in Ljubljana. On Thursday, 11 September, Georgie Bistro will join them with top-notch burgers and Krškopoljec pork steaks, paired with refreshing cocktails from the hosts. A week later, on 18 September, NEU teams up with their neighbors, pasta specialists Vito Maccheroni, continuing the Italian-style aperitivo gatherings they launched this spring. And to round off the month, on Thursday, 25 September, they will host chef Miša Koplova at their Winning Bites event, where she’ll prepare a bold, creative three-course menu with wine pairings.
Fans of Meat Business burgers will be happy to know they’re on twice a week in September: on Tuesdays from 5 pm onwards at England Pub, grilled personally by Marko, and on Wednesdays at the same time at Kletvica wine bar, where their perfectly seared patties meet buttery buns and tasty sides. Kletvica also promises another special September event, with more details to come soon.
At Piccola Cafe, September brings creative gatherings too: a Paint & Sip evening workshop with acrylics on 18 September, followed by a Yoga & Brunch morning on 20 September.
Coffee lovers, save the date! On 20 and 21 September, the Ljubljana Coffee Festival returns – Slovenia’s largest coffee event. Hosted at the City Museum, the festival will feature leading coffee experts, tastings of extraordinary brews, barista competitions, hands-on workshops, and delicious creations from mixologists and street food specialists.
JB Restaurant, a long-standing fixture of the emerging gourmet quarter mentioned earlier, continues in September with its now traditional Četrtkanje – a relaxed afternoon-to-evening gathering on the restaurant’s terrace, accompanied by great food, drinks, and the best company. The next edition is scheduled for Thursday, 25 September, in collaboration with Georgie Bistro, eVino, and renowned Slovenian winemaker Marjan Simčič.
As autumn slowly arrives in the capital, we’re delighted that Ljubljana remains lively and full of energy, even as nature begins to wind down.
Enjoy the season and all it has to offer!
