Have you taken a walk through autumn Ljubljana yet? The trees are turning into a rainbow of colors, the air smells of dry leaves and roasted chestnuts, and the late-afternoon light glows golden. One by one, Ljubljana’s restaurants are swapping fresh summer flavors for cozy autumn tastes. The days are shorter and nature is slowing down - but the city’s food scene is anything but quiet. Quite the opposite! Since summer, there’s been plenty of delicious news to discover, best enjoyed on misty mornings, golden afternoons, and long autumn evenings.

Adore Hotel & Bistro

Pot na Rakovo jelšo 6

The new bistro on the ground floor of the boutique hotel that opened in September invites guests into its bright interior with a golden, plant-covered ceiling — perfect for brunch, lunch, dinner, or just coffee with a sweet treat. Although only a short distance from the city center, this new spot offers a calm, relaxing atmosphere ideal for pleasant and flavorful gatherings.

Basa Vietnamese Cuisine

Slovenska 55

The cozy eatery opened in summer at Bavarski dvor by Nina and Pasha (nicknamed Basa) has quickly become a true Vietnamese culinary embassy in Ljubljana. Just a few months after opening, Basa has already won the hearts of pho lovers, fans of Vietnamese rolls, and other traditional dishes characteristic of this Southeast Asian cuisine — and even turned many who were new to Vietnamese food into devoted admirers.

BBige & Co.

Slovenska 51

Opened in September, this French-style bakery offers not only delicate croissants and other buttery puff pastries but also refreshing salads, inventive sandwiches, and even burek! So there’s no need to worry about finding a good bite in the city center - BBige & Co. have it deliciously covered.

Chop Chop Sandwich Shop

Tomšičeva 2

A new addition to the Nama passage, Chop Chop is another great stop for a quick bite! The menu features Italian focaccia and Japanese sando sandwiches, a variety of pastries, healthy salads, and seasonal specials — all prepared with youthful energy by the friendly team of this charming little eatery.

Jamuna

Ajdovščina 4

In September, lovers of plant-based cuisine were delighted by the opening of Jamuna, a new spot offering a variety of meat-free dishes inspired by flavors from around the world. Open on weekdays, it operates on a self-service concept — main dishes are priced by weight, while soups, salads, and desserts are sold per portion, allowing guests to tailor their meal to any appetite. Most dishes are vegan, and all are vegetarian.

Plečnikova južna

Adamič Lundrovo nabrežje 7

Under Plečnik’s arcades at Ljubljana’s Central Market, the team behind the successful Moji štruklji Slovenije eateries opened a new oštarija (inn) in September — a welcoming spot for everything from a morning coffee or hearty breakfast to a traditional Slovenian lunch or midday meal.

R&B Cafe Drive In

Medno 29

The popular roastery and café known for its fragrant specialty coffee and tasty snacks on Slovenska Street has opened a new drive-in location in Medno. Great news for everyone commuting from Gorenjska to Ljubljana — now you can skip your morning coffee and breakfast at home, stop by R&B on the way, and enjoy their coffee, smoothies, pastries, and other treats right on the go.

Tisti plac

Kersnikova 10

A special new spot has recently opened on Kersnikova Street - Tisti plac, the younger sibling of Tista cvetličarna. Inside, the aroma of coffee mingles with the vibrant colors of flowers, the sound of friendly chatter, and the calm of a green oasis. The daily menu features fresh smoothies, vegan soups, homemade pies, muffins, cakes, focaccias, and sandwiches. The welcoming atmosphere is perfect for a morning coffee and pastry daydream or an afternoon escape with a cocktail and snack, while numerous plants throughout the airy interior and garden add a touch of natural charm, just like its older sister and neighbor.

Voyager Craft Bar

Trg OF 13a

Did you know that across from the main bus station there’s a courtyard now home to a craft beer bar? This futuristic-yet-nostalgic spot is perfect for craft beer lovers - with 16 taps and a wide selection of bottles and cans displayed in fridges - as well as for fans of tasty bar snacks, analog music, sci-fi series, and evenings spent in good company.

In addition to the many newly opened culinary spots, there have also been some exciting relocations, renovations, expansions, and upcoming openings in Ljubljana. Specialists in fluffy Japanese soufflé pancakes, Angel Food, have moved to a new location at Dunajska 51, while Lučkarnica relocated from Breg to join its sister gelato shop Gelateria Romantika at Dvornik Square. Meanwhile, focacceria Pronto temporarily closed in October for renovations, and Pivoljub, the beer shop, reopened at Dunajska 115. Restaurant Cubo celebrated its renovated kitchen and garden. The popular fast-food chain Fari’s opened a Neapolitan pizza branch, Fari’s Pizza, under Plečnik’s arcades at Adamič-Lundrovo nabrežje. In the coming days, two more openings are expected: Kyo Tapas and Drinks in the former Café TOZD at Gallusovo nabrežje 27 and OAK Firehouse & Cocktail in Smlednik near the Cubo golf course.

Of course, part of a vibrant city dining scene also includes closures. Usually, we don’t highlight them in our news roundups, as we prefer to celebrate new beginnings — but this autumn, after 25 years, the iconic Pizzeria Trta in Prule closed its doors. We close this edition with a tribute and thanks to Trta, beloved not only for its delicious, generously topped pizzas but also for its warm atmosphere and charming location, where locals, students, and tourists met and forged friendships that will be fondly remembered.
