Taxis in Ljubljana

When your feet have had their fill of cobblestones, the weather suddenly changes your plans, or your suitcase refuses to go anywhere without four wheels, it is time to call a taxi.
In Ljubljana, you can find taxis at designated taxi ranks or order one by phone, online booking form or mobile app. You are most likely to find available vehicles in the city centre, at the main railway and bus station, and outside larger hotels.
Before you set off
Prices vary between providers, so ask for an estimated or fixed fare before starting your journey. This is particularly advisable for longer journeys, airport transfers and international trips.
When booking, let the provider know:
- where you would like to be picked up,
- where you are travelling to,
- how many passengers and how much luggage will be travelling,
- whether you require a child seat, a larger vehicle or a minivan,
- how you would like to pay.
If you would like to pay by card, check whether this is possible when making your booking. It will save you from rummaging through every pocket when it is time to pay.
From the airport to Ljubljana
The journey between Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport and the city centre usually takes around 25 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic.
It is advisable to book your transfer in advance and agree on the fare. At the airport, follow the signs to the official taxi rank in front of the terminal and ask about the price before setting off – surprises are much nicer when they are waiting for you in the city, not on the bill.

Booking a taxi by app
In Ljubljana, you can also book a ride using the Uber app. The app displays available vehicles, driver details and information about your journey. It is particularly convenient for visitors who already use the app and have a payment method saved.
Vehicle availability may vary depending on the time and location – even apps occasionally get caught in rush-hour traffic.
A small tip for a much smoother journey
Before closing the taxi door, check that you have your phone, wallet, glasses, suitcase and fellow travellers with you. Especially your fellow travellers.
Information about providers and prices may change. Check the current conditions, vehicle availability and final fare directly with your chosen provider.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The price of a taxi ride in Ljubljana depends on the provider, the distance travelled and any waiting time. Within the City of Ljubljana, the maximum permitted fare is EUR 2 for the starting fee, EUR 1.50 per kilometre and EUR 20 per hour of waiting time. Individual providers may charge lower rates.
The starting fee is the initial amount shown on the taximeter when the journey begins. It is charged once, after which the cost of the distance travelled and any waiting time is added.
The fare is usually calculated based on the starting fee, the number of kilometres travelled and the time the vehicle spends stationary or moving very slowly. Additional charges may apply for services such as a larger vehicle, a child seat, travelling with a pet or journeys outside the provider’s usual service area.
For pre-booked transfers, you may also be able to agree on a fixed price in advance.
The price of a taxi from Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport to central Ljubljana varies depending on the provider, the applicable fare and traffic conditions. Before entering the vehicle, check the price list or ask for an estimated or fixed price.
The journey usually takes around 25 to 35 minutes, although it may take longer during rush hour.
Some providers accept card payments, but it is best to check when booking or before the journey begins. Most providers also accept cash, while payment through an app depends on the taxi company selected.
A quick conversation before setting off is usually more pleasant than searching for a cash machine after arrival.

Luggage counts too – if there are more suitcases than passengers, it is best to mention that beforehand.
Yes. Ask for a receipt after the journey and keep it. It should show the main elements of the fare, such as the starting fee, the distance rate, any waiting time and additional charges.
