Ljubljana Castle, Grajska planota 1, 1000 Ljubljana

Every Saturday, from June to September, more than 400 years of Castle Pipers tradition comes to life once again at the Viewing Tower.

The Castle Pipers revive the tradition of the municipal musicians who, between the 16th and 18th centuries, played from the castle tower to herald important events and signal the major times of day, greet distinguished visitors, make announcements, invite people to celebrations and warn of danger. The wind band consisted of three musicians who played the horn, trombone and cornet. As municipal employees, they were also available to citizens for weddings, baptisms, celebrations and other occasions.

Today, their music once again echoes from Ljubljana Castle, bringing a piece of Ljubljana’s musical history to life.

Listen to the Castle Pipers and experience a glimpse of Ljubljana’s soundscape from centuries past!
