In 2026, the National Institute of Chemistry is celebrating 80 years of work. To mark the anniversary, an open-air exhibition has been set up on Krakovski nasip along the Ljubljanica River, with the aim of bringing the institute’s research and the people shaping modern science closer to the wider public.

The exhibition is titled Creating for the Challenges of the Future. Through portraits, statements and presentations of research work, it offers an insight into the world of science and highlights the role of research in helping to shape a sustainable, healthy and technologically advanced society.

It presents the research departments of the National Institute of Chemistry and their key fields of research, ranging from chemistry, biochemistry and biotechnology to materials, medicine, energy and environmental technologies. Special attention is given to selected female and male researchers who, as representatives of individual departments, contribute through their work to understanding and addressing some of the greatest challenges of our time.

Through portraits and personal statements, the exhibition also brings passers-by closer to the human side of science — the curiosity, creativity and dedication to research that lie behind laboratory achievements and technological breakthroughs.

The exhibition, which will be on view until 24 June, is also an invitation to reflect on the role of science in society and on the future we are shaping together.
